Maybe not every day, but on any given day, I will tell you that Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits is my all-time favorite rock song.

Two reasons.

One...

If you take this song down to the bare bones...rhythm, melody and vocals...it's a good song that people will like and remember, and it'll probably make a lot of money.

Mark Knopfler singing and playing the tastiest 'answer back' light guitar runs in between every line over that makes the song golden.

And Two...

My dad's name is Harry, and he was a legit monster trumpet player when he was younger. I believe he could've made a good living performing and teaching if he took that path. But he chose a more conventional career, made a good life that way, and played on the weekends. Fourth verse of the song...
