Retro-Thoughts on a Presidential Election
NOT 2020...because I was in the Facebook gulag for that one. 😏
Five years ago today, I wrote this piece and posted it on Facebook, just spitting out final thoughts on the 2016 election. I didn’t have an opportunity to do likewise in 2020 because I was in the Facebook slammer for a 30-day stretch, but I’ve reposted this one before and gotten good response, so we’ve got that. This was straight “freestyling” on my personal FB page, in the time period between the original Planet Common Sense WordPress blog and the PCS Nation cyberverse you know now.
I was wrong about a lot of things in this, but I was spot on right about some things too, particularly in the end.
Regardless of that, it’s a pretty good read, if a little long, and it contrasts interestingly with ‘2021 America’, from a “How’s that workin’ out for ya?” perspective, which I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on in the comments.

Everyone else is dropping their "final thoughts" on the election, so here's mine.
It's long. I don't care. I'm sayin' it anyway.
Take it as you will.
The democratic party put up, and stuck with, a catastrophically flawed candidate. They absolutely knew they were doing that, and they did it anyway. And their candidate lost to freakin' Donald Trump because of it.
Donald Trump. Let that sink in a minute.
They did not have to lose this election. They consciously CHOSE to lose this election.
Break away from this democratic dogma of, "Thou Shalt Never, EEEEver Admit Thou Art Wrong", and admit you're wrong when you're wrong. You were WAY wrong with Hillary Clinton, and the "we're never wrong" paradigm righteously kicked your ass in this election. Embrace the fact that you were completely misled by a bought and biased media, who told you time and time again for months, "Don't worry! She's fine! Trump's a joke! It'll be a landslide!" That was never true, right from the start.
Donald Trump hit a chord with America, and if you missed that and laughed him off, that's on you. It wasn't hard to see it happening if you'd torn yourself away from the spoon-feeding of the mainstream media, and just paid attention.
Be pissed off about this media misdirection. Be really, really pissed off about it, and make the entities responsible for it pay dearly, and financially, for their deception.
Donald Trump is nowhere near as bad as you've been led to believe (see my last point, and be more pissed).
He's not going to take anyone's constitutional rights away. The office of the president alone does not hold such power.
He's not going to throw every brown person out of the country.
He's not going to "ban" Muslims.
He's certainly not going to grab your pussy, nor will he condone anyone else grabbing it either.
Again, you were fed this nonsense to foster a loathing for him, so you would vote for his opponent. It almost worked.
You're not going to agree with, or even like everything he tries to do. Neither am I. That's unrealistic, and if you thought that's what you were going to end up with, with any candidate, you should do a lot more research on how this whole "democracy" thing works before you enter your next voting booth.
Donald Trump is not going to start lobbing nuclear tipped missiles willy-nilly around the globe.
"If we have nuclear weapons, why can't we use them?", in a different context than it was presented by the media (see above, again...you've got a lot to be pissed about) can be a perfectly legitimate question. Inflection, nuance, and even punctuation matter.
"I helped my uncle jack off a horse"
"I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse"
See how that works?
I wasn't in the room when he asked that question, so I don't know. But there's a lot more to the launch process than the whim of a president. Again...that's just not how it works.
Every celebrity who told you they're leaving the country?
Faaaaack them.
They're not going anywhere. America is their breadbasket and their bank. Not one of them would've achieved one tenth of the level of success and celebrity they have in any other country on this planet. Every election, these same clowns say the same thing, and they'll never follow through with it. Because at the end of the day, America is still the greatest country this world has ever known, and nowhere else will you find the opportunities afforded you here. It doesn't matter who steers the ship.
And the best news of all?
We'll survive Donald Trump.
We survived George Bush, who was kind of an idiot.
I'm pretty sure we'll survive Barack Obama, though he's still got some time to wreak his special brand of havoc.
In fact, we've survived every single president we've ever elected. We're 44-0.
Because the President isn't America.
The people are.
Whatever your vote, whatever your lean, whatever your hopes and dreams may be, it's time to get on with them now.
Trump says "Make America Great Again!"
America was never not great.
We're just a little banged up right now.
We'll be fine.
You re-posted that in 2019 and I must have shared it on my personal FB, because this showed up in my 'on this day' memories thing today. I love these longer pieces!
Whoa! Great read! Not that long!
