Again, I apologize for pushing 'Send G Somewhere Saturday' to Sunday, but the weather sucked for it and it couldn't be helped. This all looks good for tomorrow.
Great responses on the original post, and it looks like the general consensus is between the Rt. 6 bus to Yonkers, or the Rt. 13 North to Tarrytown/Ossinning... both worthy choices.
So we'll go another round, vote on those two and then execute the plan tomorrow.
Here's a little more insight on the towns/cities under consideration.
Route 6 to Yonkers...
First off, Yonkers is a huge area and the #6 only covers part of it. This would be the shorefront on the Hudson River which they did a pretty nice 'renewal' on probably 15 years ago. A block in from the river is straight ghetto and Getty Square which is the west side's main shopping area. Then more pretty rough area going up a huge slope away from the river, where if I walked up a pretty formidable hill called Maple Street would bring me to a store my grandfather owned up until about 50 years ago, and the apartment my family lived in for about my first four years.
Route 13 to Tarrytown/Ossining...
This would be the opposite end of the #13 I took to Port Chester/Rye. Ossining might be a letdown, because there isn't exactly a "Scenic Overlook" where you can take pics of Sing Sing, and there isn't much more there besides that. But coming back would be Tarrytown…and more specifically the enclave of Sleepy Hollow…where I also lived for a few years. Yes, that Sleepy Hollow. Super cool town, and loads of "Headless Horseman" themed shops & businesses, like Roswell NM is with aliens.
Either trip's a worthy choice, and I'm in no matter what you decide. 😉
GO!!
Yonkers Waterfront…
Sing Sing prison…
Sleepy Hollow would be pretty cool. I'm interested in seeing either from your point of view.
