Pre-planning last night went strongly for covering the Junteenth celebration in town here tomorrow, with a trip to Peekskill NY getting some action as well.
Staying local and covering the Junteenth festivities is cool with me. Should be an interesting contrast & compare with the Pride festivities last week. And also like last week...I've never seen Juneteenth festivities, and probably you haven't either. 😉
The Peekskill trip is a pretty cool idea, too. It's actually one of the best stretches of scenery on the Hudson Line, right up near Bear Mountain and the front gates of West Point. Cool little artsy town, and also the home of the Eastland Academy for Exceptional Girls (fictional), the Peekskill Dude Ranch (defunct), and the corporate headquarters of the Unification Church (Moonies).
Junteenth was the clear choice in preliminary planning, so it'll take a big push for Peekskill to happen.
Or, just toss out a completely different idea which you think is better than either, and we'll find out.
Go!
Juneteenth
A couple years ago my wife and I stayed at the Abbey Inn and Spa on the top of the hill in Peekskill.
Years ago it was an all girls boarding school.
The late nuns are buried behind there.
My late mother in law went to boarding school there in 1942 and 1943 as a 15 and 16 year old.
She said she had a wonderful time.
The nuns still have a beautiful building on the upper east side in Manhattan.
