Thanks to everyone who joined us on last night's "Let's go to a track meet ๐" experiment. I had a blast doing it, and it doesn't matter if you came out of it a fan or not. It's not for everyone. What matters is taking a shot on something new. Maybe next time we'll do a demolition derby. Or a bullfight. Or something. ๐
I wanted to go into this as objectively as possible, so not to sway you one way or another on it. Coming out of it, I want to add a little more flavor on my family's personal history with the Louck's Game, and some of why it's a sorta 'big deal' for me.
First of all, our quick family history at Loucks.
I competed in the 1983 Loucks games, with non-podium finishes in shot put & discus. But I don't have any picsโฆso that's Baby G, mid-hammer throw, I'm guessing at the โ83 state qualifier, at the White Plains facilityโฆ
My son Kevin competed at the Loucks Games every year from 2013-2016, and way more successfully than I did. First two pics are him gassing the field in the Section One Mile as a sophomore in 2014. Loving how he's on top of the podium and all the other guys are still as tall as him ๐โฆ
This one is as a senior in 2014, just after his last Loucks 3200m, and a new school record 9:17โฆ
Boy's 800m Championship finals yesterdayโฆ
A Loucks Burger! Which is funny because you can go to different meet at a different school every weekend and get a Cougar Burger, or a Patriot Burger, or a Raider Burger, or around here even a Tusker Burgerโฆand they all taste like โTwenty Pound Box Of Cheap Frozen 60/40 Patty Burgersโ. ๐ The money goes to the athletic department. Just eat it. ๐คชโฆ
Couple of randoms from yesterdayโฆ
From the archives, me logically discussing a potential scheduling conflict with one of Kevin's teammates just after they hit the qualifying time for Nationals in the 4x800m relay at the โ14 Loucks Gamesโฆ
Also from the archives, one last gratuitous โdaddy brag' meme from Kevin's last Loucks Games ๐โฆ
See ya next year, I guess. ๐
I love this! Thank you for sharing! One of my daughters ran track. She lettered in it, but it wasn't her passion. You're passionate about it, and it shines through your posts.
Thank you for sharing! Love this & brag on, Dad!! There's nothing better, imo, than seeing your child do what they love, enjoy it and the icing on the cake, succeed at it. I get it. My husband and I used to love watching our daughter's dance competitions. At least track is a recognized sport and always has been recognized. Dance, not so much at least when she was competing (last competition year 2017). It would piss us off hearing people say that it was "fluff!!" The gymnasts & cheerleaders at her studio used to pick on the dancers saying they just jump around & it is easy. I suggested to the owner of the studio to have them take dance classes as the dancers have had gymnastic and cheer experience in the past. The gymnasts and cheerleaders got their a^^es kicked after following the dance schedule for 1 week. ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Kudos to you for being that Dad who was there supporting your kids! BRAG ON!
