Cockatoos are the closest to a conventional "house pet" of the parrots. Macaws are just big loud assholes most of the time, and Greys are usually like "Faack off, I'm smarter than you. π" to everybody but their main handler. Cockatoos are all up in your business all day long and follow you everywhere. π They're shameless attention whores. Owning one is like having a three year old for 75 years.
I would have loved that. I have several feeders and love watching the birds. I have quite a few of the northeast songbirds. I take a lot of picks. I'm planning a trip to the Pittsburgh Aviary this summer. It's the only non-profit aviary in the US

Always give them a tightly closed fist to start off, like a fist bump, so they can't fit their beaks around anything.
That usually sorts out the curious nibblers from the "chompers".
