Another good trip in the books.
Started off shitty and disappointing as described in the video. But still we persisted, and carried on with the rest of the plan.
There's a whole ‘nother trip back to Port Chester besides this, and a few others off the #13 bus as well.
This one mostly ends up being a dark-ish, sad but sorta funny tribute to what was once a pretty popping ‘live rock’ club scene in that town.
The Dead Rock Club Scene Photo Tour 😏
The Byrum River, separating Riverside CT on the right and Port Chester NY on the left. Connected in the background by the Mill St. bridge, which countless young CT revelers crossed southbound to take advantage of the extra two hours until last call in NY…many of whom caught DUI's going back north on it on their way home 😄…
This was a rock club called Marty's, sidestreet dive, but a killer sound system. Then it was a salsa dance club called La Gratta. Now it's dead…
This was a rock club called either Fantasy or Xtasy or some thing like that. Then it was a Latin chicken restaurant. Now it's dead 🙄…
This was a rock club called The Beat. Even divier than Marty's. No stage, just an open corner. Now it's a faacking door 😑…
This used to be a rock club called 7 Willow St. Upscale place, like the Double Deuce after they fixed it up in Road House. Now I can't say for sure, but it looks like it might be a restaurant. 🤔…
This was a rock club called Detroit's. One of the top east coast club venues out there. Aerosmith, Twisted Sister, Zebra, Good Rats, etc. Big radio stations would host & broadcast live concerts from there. Now it's “Jembro…Cheap Shitty Home Goods & Clothes From China" 😣…
This whole block hasn't had electricity since Hurricane Ida back in 2021, because the power company and the local government can't sort out ripping up streets and relocating electric meters or something….
This one needs it's own short post. 😏 Linda, remind me in a couple of weeks if you remember. 😉
And I missed the chili dog, but I got my first Popeye's ‘Chicken Sandwich War' sandwich as a consolation prize 😁…
Duly noted.
Can’t go back
I tried it. Good way to get depressed.
I hadn’t been in a Popeys in 9 years, till a few weeks ago. They had 2 chix sammiches on the menu.
Reading the menu, I told the girl I wanted the one everybody was killing each other over last year.
She looked confused. The Brotha behind me said, “That one on the bottom”
(pops ain’t as good as I remember)
