Colorado went legal a few years ago. In my little town, the instant problem was with businesses finding clean help. Also, the lax police and sheriff departments made it easy for the "little stuff" to slide. The homeless camp is relatively large. City and County governments overlook the whole problem and pretend everything is rosy.
I order online and receive in the mail, a pain cream that has CBD oil in it. It does NOT contain active THC. My 7 year old granddaughter got the mail in for me, and the box was part of that day's mail. She asked what was in the box, my husband jokingly said “grandma's marijuana”. She looked at me real serious and said “what is it really?”
So 7 year olds are still under the assumption that marijuana is bad.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/culture/article/earliest-evidence-cannabis-marijuana-smoking-china-tombs Humans have used psychotropic drugs since forever. Whether it was fermenting apples and grapes or whacky weed and mushrooms, humans have used these because we are "self aware" organisms that can contemplate abstractly and some of us were wont to find methods of dealing with the mental stress of such awareness or just an opportunity to better explore that Homo Sapien ability for abstract thought. What we are seeing now is the result of far too many purposeless humans needing to find escape from the mental emptiness of a vacuous and meaningless life. We have removed spiritual comfort, for the most part and replaced that with cold intellectual nihilism and with automation we have peopled the planet, unevenly, with a surplus of humans with no reason to exist. Of course ANY sort of escapism is going to be sought and marijuana use is no less prevelent than people who turn to crystals to channel energy and other such protocols to insert some system of rationality for their existence. I do not judge the means of escapism but I do condemn the current ideologies that have brought us to such a state of human existance where ANY form of mental occupation is preferable to the void of meaningless nihilism.
I'm in PA. You can get a medical Marijuana card very easily for about $200 and an annual renewal of $50. I considered getting one until I found out you cant have a concealed carry permit if you have one. The "dispensaries" are making mad money. Their shit is EXPENSIVE but so much more THC content than what we smoked back in the day. Also the vapes, shatter, dabs, all kinda ways to injest it. There's also a pretty robust bootleg weed market around. I could get an oz of weed that will rock you world for $200 which is a fraction of the dispensary cost but you just don't get all the "flavors" and there's dozens of them but you'd end up paying close to $1k if you get at the dispensary because they only sell by the gram and no quantity discount. I live in a college town and those students are a decent % of their clients during the school year according to someone I that works in one.
Here in small town Florida it is quite rare to even get a whiff of something that may possibly be weed. However, during Covid when I lived in small town Tennessee, the scent would waft through the air quite frequently
Recreational marijuana is legal in Michigan, where I live. My village was quick to pass an ordinance against pot shops, thankfully. The biggest town near me is full of pot shops and crime has risen, including gun crimes. Marijuana stinks and I'd never put that in my body. My libertarian side says "to each his own." My conservative side says "dumbasses."
I tried it when I was 16. Did not like. Joined USN right outta HS. Graduated Nuclear power school. Staying clean was required to remain in the nuclear power program. Quit cigarettes when prices reached $2/pack, and the coughing. Now live in Portlandia. Division Street has dispensaries every 10th block. Still staying clean. I like my bourbon and beer. But otherwise, I feel no need.

Here in the Emerald Triangle of Northern California herbs rival the timber and wine grape industries in revenue generated.
The lockdown and the 'extra' 600 bucks a week EDD/BBB rockin' chair money did not promote good work habits. The snack industry made a fortune! 😊
