I couldn't agree with the comment Amy made more! Everybody wants the swamp drained, we've been saying it for years. This is what that looks like. People need to stop hyperventilating and let this play out. You didn't think the swamp would just step aside, did you?? I feel like when this is over we will have a more conservative representative party. JMO.

I'm more upset with the ones who keep voting for McCarthy honestly. And that's what I am hearing from people I speak to. McCarthy is not popular among conservatives. And I don't mean "far right", I mean just middle of the road conservatives.

Expand full comment

Exactly!! The ones not voting for him are doing what their constituents want, the others are walking in lock step like the damn democrats!

Expand full comment

Really? I don’t think this is cause for leaving the party. This fight is happening because true conservatives are done with the Rhinos.

Expand full comment

Leaving and going where? Is there a viable third party out there? No way they’d be going to the dem side or they were never conservative to begin with.

I'm not hearing that. I am in sales and the conservatives I speak to are cheering them on. I live in Scott Perry's district and I think he is gaining popularity with conservatives in central PA

We are neighbors apparently. I also live in Congressman Perry's district. Politics is by nature messy, and this is a good lesson in civics. We consistently talk about principles and bitch about rinos caving. I would have preferred that this not happen on the national stage but the people who are fleeing the party because the conservative wing is standing their ground were never strong conservatives to begin with.

YEP!

Not fleeing. Understand that the conservatives are standing their ground. Great! May they have strong backs and deep planted feet throughout their term to help right this sinking ship. Where I'm annoyed is the fact that LONG BEFORE the actual vote, it was KNOWN Kevvie wasn't going to get the vote or easily get the vote. They should have been organized, GOP as a unit, and hashed this all out and had a viable candidate. Day 4 of wasting my $$$ instead of clearing the sh**. JMO & that and 50 cents won't get me over the Walt Whitman Bridge to the Philly side!!

Peace!

Exactly!!

I don’t believe that is the reason. People are leaving both party’s.

I am surprised you are upset that they aren’t voting for McCarthy.

You want change, things accomplished.

McCarthy is a swamp RINO.

Sorry but if nothing is done in Congress the better.

It’s time for McCarthy to step aside.

To be completely clear, I'm upset that they're not voting for McCarthy without bringing a viable candidate to put up in his stead.

No. People Will leave if after four “wasted” days we get Kevin m. But if Kevin puts aside ego and nominates someone else- then everyone will vote for that person. And if that person doesn’t do an absolute piss poor job the Republican Party survives And Flourishes. It cannot under Kevin. Period.

Those dumb enough to vote Kevin now will still be dumb enough to vote R no matter who. But the freedom caucus voters will absolutely leave.

I agree with Amy. THIS is the way government should work and if those leaving think that delaying the fetid effluence of the House for as long as it takes to bring that House back to a form where "The People's" voices can be heard is a problem, then they need a lesson in civics and an understanding where life under the prog/left will lead them. I am beginning to think that there are more morons than adults left in this nation.

I switched my registration to Independent a long time ago just to get the “R” off my name. The Republican Party in general and Keven McCarthy in particular are jerks! It is McCarthy’s enormous ego and feelings of entitlement that are holding things up. The more votes he loses the worse he looks and the Rinos don’t care because they are all about status quo. The process needs to play out.

Expand full comment

My other half switched to independent also but now he cannot vote in primaries and those are going to be important as this civil war continues.

I agree it is a problem.

Expand full comment

I heard Trump may run as an Independent. Did you?

Expand full comment

I didn't hear that, but it's plausible to some degree.

That would 100% guarantee the democrat candidate wins in '24.

Expand full comment

I agree. I think he would do that if he is not the nominee. I’m hoping I read it wrong and it’s not true at all

Expand full comment

I agree to certain extent but don't you think that that type of thinking is what keeps us locked in a two party system? If all his 2020 voters stuck with him, which made him the real winner to begin with, and he peeled off a decent number of fed up democrats maybe he could create a viable third party. I don't know, just asking. We all bitch about the system as is.

Expand full comment

I haven't heard but it would be a sure fine way to keep a democrat in the white house. What a stupid idea and if it's true then Trump is proving to be just an ego driven bag of hot air at this point.

Expand full comment

We cannot "fix" this problem as Trump's election proved the point that the problem is the swamp in total, not the parties residing in it. Only a total cleansing of the swamp - which would be nigh impossible through regular elections and judicial indictments for crimes - could remove the corruption within both the elected and appointed employees of "The People's" government.

I don’t care how long it takes to keep McCarthy OUT of the Speaker role

He is as slimy and useless to America as is McConnell. Stand firm

Expand full comment

I'm not leaving but it is very confusing...the democrats may bash each other but Piglosi sure trained them well to come out and vote lockstep with each other...wish the republicans could do the same and sort it out after we get things going in congress...they look foolish

Expand full comment

"Piglosi" didn't train them as much as she held the purse strings of their re-election campaigns and the direction of the "Pork" spigot into their districts. McCarthy is just her doppleganger on the right. His power is the flow of money which is why he is a rino rather than a true conservative and will sell out the right for cash, just like McConnell.

Expand full comment

This is why the Freedom Caucus is holding his feet to the fire and making the speakers position more accountable and not the fist grip that Piglosi had on her party. There will be more room for dissent and debate on both sides. Returning the house to the people not the leaders of both parties.

Expand full comment

The minut he is elected his promises mean nothing and there aren' enough staunch conservatives who would go without committee assignments or pork to oppose him once he has his hands of the hose of power that is filled with cash. If he is elected nothing will change.

Expand full comment

Congress and corrupt are synonymous. Enriching themselves is only surpassed by getting re-elected.

McCarthy would be Pelosi 2.0 with an "R" after his name. Occupying the Speaker's office before the vote was a poor decision.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew you weren’t a swampy McCarthy supporter. 😎

I've been openly bashing McCarthy for years.

But I also understand "strategy" and "futility".

Showing up for this with five "hardcore" Never-Kevin votes, fifteen "Sure, until we get a better offer" swampublican hack votes, and no compelling and viable alternative to McCarthy, was comically bad strategy, and stank of futility.

If you leave the GOP because it is dysfunctional, where do you go? To the democratic party that has it's act together? Even though it's act is to destroy what we know and love of what is left of this once great nation?
