My guy and I have been listening to audio books of Dicken's novels during dinner these past few months and many of the characters and social situations described in them, (especially in "Our Mutual Friend"), seem to well fit the social situations noted daily in our media. I know what happened to the British Empire after the age of Dickens and I do hope we are not on that trajectory ourselves. Many want to compare America with Ancient Rome, but, in reality, we are much more similar to Victorian England.
