Gaetz & Boebert getting thrown to the lions by house republicans on vote #12!
McCarthy still won't have the votes, but they're starting to hang the “rebels” out to dry, and the republican side is applauding every time one of the “original 20” flips their vote to McCarthy in this round.
I will not cheer for the further debasement of our constitution for the sake of expediency. McCarthy is a rino and if you support his election, you support the swamp and business as usual. I fear for this nation. Those cheering on the right in the House just want to get on with the corruption and pork ASAP.
The House is pretty much shut down... maybe we should remember this the next time they threaten to shut down the government because they can't spend enough to keep their donors happy... but in 12 months when these 430+ members go home to campaign for 2024, at least they will have Representatives Gaetz and Boebert to Blame for not doing anything for "we the people" this year. ("Had we only had a speaker in place on day one, then we would have done something, but no....
there just wasn't enough time as it was.")Unlike every other year when they had to go home and blame "the other side" (or the other chamber, or the President) for "not working with us".

The Freedom Caucus is holding out to a actually return power to the individual members rather than the party leaders.
They presented some good points of what they want this congress to address: term limits, balanced budgets, one item bills (I only caught a snippet of what was said.) All good things to hold both sides accountable. I especially like the comment “Do you want a speaker like Pelosi who wanted to be queen or a speaker that actually works for everybody?” This way there can at least be dissent and debate.
Justin Amash is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and one of the big reasons he left Congress was because everything was decided on party and the leaders told you how to vote. He switched now to being an independent.
This has been a brutal work and many view it as silly and a waste of time but literally what is referred to as “sausage making in congress” is unfolding and will lead us to a better process.
This is the first step of taking the congress back for the people. Let’s take it and then work on the establishment for both Republicans and Democrats.
So McCarthy will eventually be voted as Speaker but watch him go back on his word.
Good luck getting 218 votes on any legislation.
