First of all, I am exercising my privilege as the guy who has all the buttons that run this freakin' cyber-den of iniquity, to not voice any opinion whatsoever on the subject at hand at this time. I have some, and I'll voice them eventually. But for now I'm just putting it out there.
A hypothetical, then a question.
The hypothetical...
A group of moderate congress members from both parties, names you don't or hardly even know because they're not in front of cameras acting the fool, just doing their job, comes up with a two-part proposal for a hardcore nationwide program implemented as an attempt at 'common ground', ahead of any discussions later about guns in America.
Part One: They establish a clear, meticulously detailed list of every type of weapon known in America that is an 'Assault Weapon', and an equally clear and detailed list of every type of weapon known in America that is NOT an assault weapon. Once settled upon, this gets etched in stone. They do whatever the process would be to get something like that through congress and on the Resolute Desk for the president's signature. And it becomes real.
(Disclaimer...I am CLEARLY not talking about the current congress and president. It's hypothetical. Stay focused. 😉)
Part Two: They launch the biggest media blitz ever, on every form of media we have, relentlessly until it works, using these detailed and definitive lists to educate all of America about our weapons, and upon which list each of them lives. Because there's a shitpile of gray area between "You can have a Daisy Air Rifle, but not an aircraft carrier", and that's why people fight.
For the most obvious example of them all...
"An AR-15 is not an assault weapon. It just looks like one. Like an emu looks like an ostrich. Like you wouldn't fuck with an ostrich, but you'd take your chances with an emu if you had to. POW > pop. Got it? Good! 😃"
And on the other side of the coin...
"No! You cannot have a faacking functioning bazooka from WW2! That is completely unreasonable for hunting OR home protection! 😣"
And so on, and so on, and so on, aiming toward getting to at least only the 15% irredeemably stupid demographic not being on board, because of course they won't be 🙄, and giving us 85% common ground to potentially start a conversation from.
The question...
If that all got implemented, executed, embraced by the public and if necessary enforced, and everyone was on the same page about what weapons are what, would you be open, or more open, to accepting and engaging in civil conversation about an assault weapons ban?
There are no wrong answers.
Go.
Not on board. "Assault weapon" is a political term. "Assault weapon" in military terms is a firearm that has the ability to fire in a fully automatic manner.
These weapons are already banned in America. Hard stop. No further discussion needed.
Not about that, not about what the media call "high-capacity" magazines either.
A "standard" magazine for a "Modern Sporting Rifle" (which the anti's call an Assault weapon) is 30 rounds.
Any shooter who trains can replace a rifle magazine in approximately 2 seconds; this makes a discussion about magazine capacity limitations also a hard stop.
Both issues are simply false flags to scare/intimidate those who know nothing about the workings/operation of MSRs.
The goal is to gain a groundswell of support through fear mongering to the electorate.
There are NO needs of more gun laws; there is a need to arrest and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law all those who are found guilty of breaking same.
No deals, no parole, full sentences served.
This discussion will never end. Once “they” ban all of those so called assault weapons, a school shooter will show up with a 6 shot double action smith & Wesson with a bundle of speed loaders and kill a bunch of kids. Now a 6 shooter will be on the ban list. This is why we have to fight.
