The person who designed the abomination that passed for the opening ceremonies and who also designed whatever crap will come from the closing ceremonies has said that he wanted to portray "what France is today" or some such rot.I will not watch one minute. I sound like a curmudgeonly old man, but the Olympics are supposed to be about sports, not perversion.

If you are a believer in symbolism, it's easy to understand at least some of it. Jules Verne (french writer) wrote the stories "Around the World in 80 Days" where the protagonists flew in a hot air balloon. He also wrote a story about flying to the moon. And of course the French gave us the Statue of Liberty.
