What a joy. Once when I was in Boston, I went along the red brick trail, and when we were in the Bunker Hill area, we were treated to an every weekend parade tradition of the police and fire department showing their support for us people. I was so impressed! This was pre-9/11, btw. We have our Veteran's day parade, which is grand but not on this scale at all.
A really good quality sousaphone is a way better bottom voice for genuine "marching band" music because it projects the sound at 'ear level' instead of upward like an upright tuba.
Only thing is a really good sousaphone probably starts at about $10k, and there aren't too many school boards that are going to ok $60k for a set of football field instruments, so they mostly use those hideous plastic ones which are like big freakin' kazoos. Those things are an earsore.
I love a good bagpipe. Our local small town 4th of July parade will be led by a local piper who is fabulous. And for fun bagpiping try the Wicked Tinkers a rock bagpipe band. We used to go the San Diego Highland Games specifically to see them play.

And BTW, I LOVE the bagpipes. 🤩
The towns I've watched parades in aren't big enough to have bridges on the parade route. 😆
Looks like a nice parade. What's your reason for hating bagpipes? What's your ethnicity?
Far as I know I'm about an eighth Irish, and I'm a solid quarter English, but that doesn't overcome the fact that I can hear. 😏
I swear I mean no offense to anyone and I get it that they strike a chord with folks, but I can't take it. Ever since I was a little kid.
🤣
I'm impressed. He marched with a tuba rather than a sousaphone.

The sousaphones in our local HS marching band are brass, but they look like they've been through a war lol
