We currently are experiencing a bumper crop of, what I think is, Box Elder Bugs. There will be clumps of them that are perfectly still and look like Burnt Peanuts, until disturbed, then they scatter. Never seen them like that before. Not nearly as big as your Lantern Fly.
Those aren't Lantenr Flys...looks like big effin cock roachs to me.

We get both Box Elder Bugs AND Spotted Lantern Flies. We're special here in SE PA.
