While I see your point here clearly, it is at least possible that the verb "voted" has been misused here and is meant to merely express "in agreement with", rather than an actual ballot having been cast, as one might say "well you voted for it" about a questionable favorite song of another person.
Not saying that for certain is what is going on in this case, but it would fit the speech pattern of the person being quoted.
