The pandemic was alarming to me, not because government abused its power, because I expect that from government, but we allowed it. THAT was the alarming part and why the left were playing the part of the necessary useful idiots needed to control us.
It started with the depression of 1929 and the communist leaning lefties brought in earlier by Woodrow Wilson. They suggested socialist fixes for our nation and FDR fell for them. Actually the implementation of the federal income tax should have been our first warning. The coup de grace was the "Great Society" legislation initiated under the JFK/LBJ democrat congresses that gave us our permanent socialist welfare state. As an added bit, Wilson was the first "woke" socialist president and he gave succor to many progressives fleeing Europe after WWI. Boiling it down we have always headed off the track whenever a democrat had any input.
It started with the draconian measures put into place because of Covid. Biden getting installed as president without even one of Trump’s cases being heard was what really made me think it was the beginning of the end.
Geez, let me count the ways but I have to agree with you. McCain throwing the election to that idiot was bad enough but what were the Republicans thinking even running McCain? Somebody knew where all the bodies were buried and had a hold over the entire congress.
Some really great responses out there. My take, just from a personal perspective, was during the W. Bush years. The creation of the Department of Homeland Security was the biggest problem for abusing citizens rights since the suspension of habeas corpus during the Civil War. His pro-illegal immigrant policy. "They just want to do the jobs Americans won't." His ethanol in the gasoline policy was the worst thing to happen to the food supply and energy sectors in our history. And although he did the right thing in going into Afghanistan and toppling the Taliban he expanded the war into Iraq before consolidating the Afghan situation, while completely ignoring the Islamic extremist threat from Pakistan. Those things were the most important of the things that caused me to lose trust. I felt betrayed. I voted for him willingly against Gore. I contributed to his campaign, the first time I ever gave money to a politician. I voted for him again in 2004 but only because his opponent was Kerry.
OMG. I voted for Bush twice as well. I liked his initial response to 911: how he pulled the country together, went to ground zero, that's what we needed in the immediate aftermath of such a horrible attack on our country. Then came the Patriot Act. That was a page right outta the democrats playbook...never let a good crisis go to waste. Then came Obama, Hillary as Sec of State, Eric Holder, etc. It felt so good for 4 years with Trump even though he was always getting screwed and the 2020 election cheating was the icing on the cake.
Absolutely. As would Kerry have been. I am a very big fan of Reagan. I was in the military during the Carter disaster and when Reagan came to power he was a godsend for us. But it took Bush the first only 4 years to just about destroy everything Reagan had accomplished. I actually wrote my own name in for President in 1992.
Wow! That sure was a monumental moment, but I don’t think I EVER trusted government. I can think of an endless list of events that only confirmed what I already knew.
I guess you can’t lose what you never had. I remember a neighbor campaigning for mayor of our township. I was probably in seventh grade and I was best friends with his daughter, so it was a summer of door knocking and leaflets. That was my first exposure to politics.
I guess I always understood the flaws of men, and power corrupts 100% of the time if it goes unchecked. I read Lord of the Flies, and Animal Farm, The Bible, World History, it’s a difficult theme to miss.
It seems that it was in the Obama reign when things started to get more overt, and during Trump's presidency the push was really obvious. But the beginning was right after WWII the European leaders who had to heal their countries, got together to decide that the only way to avoid another World War is to unite all countries into one. One World Government.
About 3/4 way into Obama first term. The divisions starts getting bigger and bigger. Trump was a breath of fresh air. Crass, sarcastic, bold. So opposite of what we have been conditioned to as “presidential “ He gave the “little people” ..Us… a voice. He said what so many of us wanted to say. Americans FIRST in America!

Trump was well aware of his opportunity to be that voice. But we did not arrive at this split just since obama. I was born in 1951 and I saw the split even in such TV fair as Dobie Gillis, Maynard G. Krebbs was all too evident of the breaking up that had started even before WWII
The theft of the 2020 election from Trump
The LAWLESSNESS of the DemocRATic party
And the LACK of BALLS from the Republican Party.
And last but not least the absolute disregard of the LAW by Governors during the planned pandemic

It was a slow process but COVID was the obvious one. I was pointing out how un-American everything was at the beginning and I was the Bad Grandma.

My only comfort in voting for Bush, whom I did not root for in the primary, was Gore would have been much worse.
