I would take & have taken it over the "my taxes pay your salary - so dance monkey, dance attitude"...a yup got that one way too many xs in approximately 10 years of gvt service (internship, volunteer & employed).
34 years of government service here. If I had a dime for every time I heard "my taxes may your salary" I could have retired after 15 years! When possible, I would ask what their employee discount was then tell them what my employee discount was - 0 0.0% plus all the abuse I could take. And while corporate-types were treated to dinners, event tickets, etc the best we got was an afternoon off for a picnic. Which we paid for.
God bless you! My Mom retired in 2013 just under 50 years. I would've been a lifer but I left the county and state to get married. Yup...got spit on bc one of our investigators didn't return a call. Worked in a bldg that was featured on local Philadelphia news for contamination ( we were the Health Department 😂🤔).
One building I worked in had a leaky HVAC system. Whatever was leaking was making people sick, passing out sick. For weeks we would have ambulances making the rounds - pick someone up at our building, deliver them to a hospital, come back for the next person. Yep, we just kept reporting for work, day after day. Had it been a private building the state would have shut them down. They never did tell us exactly what we were exposed to. They also did asbestos abatement, while we worked in the building. I was in another building in the early 80s, pregnant with my second child, guy came in to spray for cockroaches mid-afternoon. I vacated the area, went to the lunchroom 10 floors down. One by one my coworkers joined me. The last to arrive said she didn't notice the guy until her feet got wet when he sprayed under her desk!
Worked in 1 bldg for years, so did my mom that was built on a toxic waste dump or so maintenance said ...I just remember as a kid going there that there was always blue/green goo coming up from the ground...
Hmm, the HVAC building also had an incident with blue water coming through the drinking fountains. I wonder if that building was built on a toxic waste dump? Would explain a lot! Yeah, people are still working in that godforsaken building
I worked for DHHS as did my Mom. My Dad worked for the Boro for 10 years...I was also picked to be a service district representative, meaning I had 5 municipalities that I gave presentations to 1x a month and I was their direct point person. I also was my Boro's liason and specifically a local (Boro) BOH rep ..& I then used to work a bunch of political functions and host a few at my parents house. Had I stayed, they would have put me on the ballot. That was the plan. I will say that I only used my knowledge of who's who & they knew me too 1x & really, technically, I threatened to call in a card. My maternal Grandmother was rushed to the hospital. She had pneumonia or so we thought...ended up being pneumonia and end stage cancer (in hindsight meso). The ER was refusing to treat her bc they said they didn't have a bed. I just wanted her stabilized so we could move her. As the hospital is fighting w the ambulance crew, Iook on the wall & lo and behold the Congressman who was just at our house a couple months ago & knew us, his portrait was there. I told the hospital that if they didn't treat her & idc if they had to put her on the fkn roof to do so, they were gonna do it or I was gonna make a call!
NJ politics isn't for the faint of heart...I know what I was thinking then & GRATEFUL God had other plans.
I'm not saying this like I was important. I wasn't & I knew it & my Mom would remind me that you meet the same people on the way up as you do going down.
I look back though & think 🤔, I was kinda smart?! What happened??
This week I was told by a resident unhappy with our infrastructure improvements project that she was so upset that I caused her diarrhea. WTH do you say to that?
This was also the same resident that asked my name and spelling of it so she could call the local news on me.
There are always a few bad apples, but I deal with so many good residents. I don’t mind dancing and jumping for those as a government employee.
Now you can find Nathan and actually tell him to go to hell without worrying about getting fired 😄
Ahh....customer service....

I can relate...

Ugh
16 years of municipal service in the Public Service Division. My boss and I hear this everyday.
We were both stole away from private engineering firms to run the division by the township superintendent. What were we thinking?! 🤪
😂😂😂

Maybe customer service is not your calling 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The 1st one was good.
I wonder if therapy has helped Jessica deal with the victimization she suffered because of you 🤔
And obnoxious and curt are actually attributes of yours that some of us find appealling. Pugnacious might be too, but I don't know what that means.
Only slightly, though. He didn’t go full-on pugnacious
I like pugnacious too.

Caused her diarrhea 🤣, damn I lol'd at that.
I worked part time at a Lowe's as a side hustle. I wonder if there are any Yelp reviews about me 🤔
I shudder to think if anyone ever yelped me 😖
I'd love to read Yelp reviews of me. I only heard rumors.
Perhaps you are (according to YELP) a "D" list screwslinger.
Fuck em and move on, the public sucks!
